Ape

Ape county is located in north-eastern region of Vidzeme. It is in the border with Alūksne, Gulbene, Smiltene and Valka municipalities, as well as Estonia and Valga and Võru counties. Ape municipalty consists of Ape, who is also the municipality center, Ape parish, Gaujiena parish, Trapene parish and Virešu parish.
 


Ape county, according to 2030 Latvia (Latvian Sustainable Development Strategy), is included into part of Nature Conservation, landscape, cultural and historical areas of concentration.
In the municipality are various, clean and unspoiled nature, full with forests and different natural attractions - parks, alleys, rocks and waterfalls, as well as cultural and historical landscapes and individual territories.


 
In the Ape municipality there are 2 special areas of conservation Veclaicene and Ziemeļauja, and 8 nature reserves. In Ape district are located 29 local cultural monuments and 33 national cultural monuments.
