Valka local History Museum

The Valka Local History museum is founded in 1970th. The building was constructed in 1850-1853 as the seminary for Vidzeme parish schoolteachers. From 1853 to 1881, the director of the seminary was Jānis Cimze.

 

The museum has a permanent exhibition on the activities of the seminary, preserves materials on the history and inhabitants of Valka region and town, and arranges regular art exhibitions organize celebrations of annual traditional customs.

 

At present museum offers to see exposition of the former seminary of Vidzeme parish teachers, to study life-style of Latvian farmers in 19th century, to take part in firing the bread stove and in other activities.
